OPEN Housing exists to develop low-income housing for adults experiencing disabilities who are willing and able to live and thrive in community, as well as selected low-income others.
In the USA, nearly 75% of adults experiencing intellectual or developmental disabilities live in their family's home. On the Olympic Peninsula, that number is closer to 99%. Imagine being an adult who wants to live independently, develop social skills, learn what it means to contribute to their community with nowhere affordable to go.
Think back to when you were in your late teens and living at home. Did you look forward to living in your own space and place, outside the family home? That dream is hard to fulfill for most Olympic Peninsula residents who experience IDD. There is little housing for IDD that fosters community. Indeed, there is little low-income housing at all.
We would like to help with that.
And we would like you to help us help.
OPEN Housing is confident that local individuals, organizations and businesses will embrace the vision and collaborate with us to help adults experiencing disabilities thrive near where they grew up.
